Jordan’s photos convey an important message, as well as being stunning visually, and definitely deserve recognition. I cannot say that his intentions were anything but noble, and the pictures may affect a lot of people in a positive way. At the same time, however, the whole presentation did feel slightly alarmist. I feel as though he, like many people, makes references to the rising rate of things like resource consumption, while ignoring that the population is rising in step with it. America may have the largest prison system in the world, but the nation itself is nearly the size of Europe, making it an unfair comparison to many other nations. Yet this comes only from his manner of presentation, and despite this feeling, the photos have an important story to tell. America may not be “declining,” it may not be in worse situations than other countries, but even if a problem has always existed, it should still be fixed. These pictures may well be able to aid in that.
